The first item on my agenda was a photo op with Lana Parrilla, the Evil Queen herself; I was very nervous and excited! As I went to find the proper line for this event, I did not expect the flooding of photos taken and compliments given on my cosplay...it was overwhelming in the very best sense, and I knew my mom would be thrilled to hear how her work was appreciated! I met so many wonderful fellow fans and made many new friends, which I'm very thankful for. Each one had a unique story and a similar reason for their fanship.
I made it to the photo line in a huge conference room of the hotel, and my heart started racing...I was in the same room with Lana, though she was behind a screen for the photos and I could not yet see her! Some ladies in line pushed me ahead of them because they wanted to see Lana's reaction to the magnificent evil queen gown I was wearing. I had my meeting with her all planned out. As soon as she saw the dress and commented, I was going to look down and repeat one of her famous lines from Season 4 - "What the hell am I wearing?!" However, as with most fans, as soon as I stepped into the photo area with her, my mind went completely blank and all I could do was say "Hi Lana!"
Lana went from a straight face to one of absolute surprise, eyes wide with fascination. While circling me and inspecting the gown, she said, "OMG, Wow...that is STUNNING! Who made that!?" She was very complimentary, including that she had never seen one as accurately recreated before. She loved my mom's work. We posed for our picture, and truth be told, I hate the photo. Lana looks great, as always, but I look nervous in the picture. :::::sigh::::: Next time.
Back in the lobby, I had some time to kill until my next photo with Lana and Sean (I promised myself I wouldn't be nervous for that one!) Maid Marian and I stood together, and people kept approaching us for pictures! Some people wanted pictures of the costumes, and others wanted pictures with us. We gradually got into character, which became quite fun! There are many photos of me choking my best friend...err...my rival. I was thrilled to pose with other cosplayers, one of them being the queen's guard, and someone gave me a prop heart to rip out of their chest! Most of the time, I whipped out my prop apple and offered it to others, or flashed my #EvilRegal hand sign.
In line again for another photo with Lana (and Sean), I felt in character. I was the queen! And I was going to have fun flaunting her regal sass. This time when I stepped into the photo op area, I was not nervous. I felt confident! Lana was happy to see the dress again, and Sean was blown away. I stood between them and asked if we could flash some #EvilRegal for the camera. Lana was like, "Sure, we can do that!" Sean said, "We do what now?" in his delicious British accent (yeah yeah, I know...WE are the ones with the accent...my apologies, Sean). Then he balked and said, "Do I have to?" I looked at him and pointed to Lana and said, "HELLO!!!!!" in my best mocking tone. He laughed and obliged. It was my favorite picture.
